  • 1/2 cup sour cream, room temperature

  • 1 3/4 cups unsalted butter (for buttercream)
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder (for buttercream)
  • 6 cups powdered sugar (for buttercream)
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream (for buttercream)
  • Pinch of salt (for buttercream)
  • 2 1/4 cups chocolate chips (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a springform pan lined with parchment paper.
  2. In one bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, egg, and hot water.
  3. Combine wet and dry mixtures until well blended. Pour half into the springform pan and bake for 30-35 minutes; let cool.
  4. For the cheesecake layer: Beat cream cheese until smooth, mix in sugar and cocoa powder, then add sour cream and melted chocolate chips. Incorporate eggs one at a time.
  5. Pour cheesecake mixture over the cooled cake layer and top with remaining batter. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for about 55-60 minutes.
  6. Cool completely before frosting with whipped buttercream made from butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and salt.
