Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon instant yeast

- 1/2 cup warm water (105°F-115°F)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup shortening (melted)
- Cinnamon sugar mixture (1/4 cup granulated sugar + 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon)
- Glaze (4 2/3 cups powdered sugar + 2 1/2 tablespoons honey + melted butter + vanilla extract)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, mix warm water, honey, egg, and vanilla until combined. Add melted shortening and stir.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients using a stand mixer with a dough hook; knead for about 8 minutes until sticky but workable.
- Shape dough into a ball and let it rise in an oiled bowl covered for 1–2 hours until nearly doubled.
- Prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture while the dough rises.
- Roll risen dough into an 8" by 12" rectangle, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, roll tightly from one edge, seal the ends with water, cut into pieces.
- Let cut pieces rise for another 45 minutes before baking at 350°F or frying until golden.
