Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons Kashmiri green tea (or other green tea)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 star anise
  • 2 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Sugar or honey (to taste)
  • Crushed nuts (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a saucepan and add green tea; simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in baking soda and boil until deep red.
  3. Add spices (star anise, cardamom, cinnamon) and boil for another minute.
  4. Reduce heat and let simmer for 20–30 minutes.
  5. Mix in salt, then add milk gradually while stirring until it boils.
  6. Strain into cups to remove spices and sweeten to taste.
  7. Garnish with crushed nuts if desired.
