Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt optional, for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Press half of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the dough layer.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the caramel, then gently spread to cover as much as possible.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Allow to cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
  • Sprinkle with sea salt, if using.
