Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain white rice not instant or brown
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 ounces chicken broth
  • 8 ounces whole milk
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Rinse the rice in a fine mesh sieve under cold water to remove excess starch. This helps prevent the rice from becoming gummy.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until lightly browned and fragrant.
  • Stir in the rice, chicken broth, milk, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  • Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Try not to lift the lid during cooking.
  • Remove the pan from heat and stir in the parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.

Notes

Using Brown Rice: Cooking time will increase to around 45 minutes. Follow your rice package instructions and add extra water as needed.
Liquid Ratio Tips: Maintain a low heat and avoid removing the lid during cooking to trap steam. Add ¼ cup of water if the pan becomes too dry.
Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days. Reheat with a splash of broth or milk to maintain creaminess.
